Planarians as an alternative in vivo model to assess developmental, neuro- and genotoxicity
Planarians as an alternative in vivo model to assess developmental, neuro- and genotoxicity
Location: Webex
Dr. Karolien Bijnens is a junior post-doctoral researcher in the Toxicology group (BiTE Lab, Hasselt University). Her expertise is centered on understanding physiological responses to toxicological stressors, particularly related to (neuro)development and redox biology. Over the past two years, she has put her focus on micro and nanoparticle-induced (neuro)developmental toxicity. To study the associated complex toxicological endpoints, she uses the highly regenerative planarian Schmidtea mediterranea as an alternative in vivo model. Martijn Heleven, a PhD student in the BiTE lab research group at Hasselt University, has a passion for microscopy and is dedicated to advancing regeneration studies through the application of cutting-edge imaging techniques. His primary focus lies in combining conventional imaging techniques with real-time imaging to study the role of redox and neuronal dynamics in vivo, which is of significant value for assessing neuronal and developmental toxicity, especially within the context of ecotoxicology. He is also committed to enhancing effective communication within academia and beyond, advocating for accessible scientific knowledge across diverse audiences.

2nd International CAM conference
Location: Kreuz+Quer, Bohlenplatz 1, 91054 Erlangen, Germany - https://www.kreuz-und-quer.church/
The Chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) model is a robust and cost effective alternative in vivo system. It has an enormous potential of applications, exemplarily it can serve as a bioreactor for culturing tumor cells, be a system for safety testing of novel therapeutic compounds or for studying damaging effects of biomaterials or for imaging purposes etc. Motivated by the big success of the first online International CAM conference in February 2022 with more than 350 participants of 36 countries we will meet for the follow-up conference in Erlangen. Here we will have the unique possibility to exchange our knowledge, to find new collaboration partners and finally to reach a higher standardization and acceptance of the CAM model. You can expect an exciting and highly informative conference targeting all different aspects of the CAM in vivo model. We are looking for meeting you in Erlangen, a cosmopolitan city in the heart of Bavaria, Germany
